Recovery teams lifted the fuselage of an Air ACT Boeing 747-400 freighter from the waters off Hong Kong International Airport over the weekend. The aircraft had gone down following an accident on October 20 that resulted in two fatalities in the ground.

Authorities coordinated the salvage with assistance from two Guangzhou Salvage Bureau vessels. Images from the scene showed the aircraft’s tail section being removed first, with the fuselage subsequently placed on supports aboard a maritime platform.

The accident occurred when the freighter collided with a patrol vehicle during landing, causing both to enter the sea. All four crew members were evacuated and transported to hospital after the crash.

Hong Kong International Airport has kept its northern runway closed since Thursday to facilitate salvage operations and ensure safety during the removal process.

Investigators are expected to examine the recovered wreckage as part of the ongoing inquiry. Salvage activities were scheduled for completion by Monday night, with further updates anticipated as the investigation progresses.
