Air TransportBoeing and Air Astana said the Kazakh flag carrier has finalized an order for up to 15 787-9 Dreamliners, converting a commitment first announced in November 2025 into a firm agreement. The purchase marks the largest single aircraft order in the airline’s history and will expand its widebody fleet for long-haul growth.
In addition to the direct order, Air Astana is set to receive three 787-9 aircraft through leasing agreements, potentially bringing its Dreamliner fleet to 18 units. The first deliveries are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The 787-9, configured to seat 303 passengers in Air Astana’s layout, is intended to support expansion into new long-haul markets, including North America, while modernizing the carrier’s existing widebody operations. Air Astana currently operates three Boeing 767 aircraft on international routes.
The finalized Boeing order comes shortly after shareholders approved the acquisition of 25 Airbus A320neo-family aircraft, with options for 25 more, under a memorandum of understanding signed in November 2025. That narrowbody deal, covering A320neo and A321neo variants, is scheduled for delivery between 2031 and 2034.
Together, the Airbus and Boeing agreements signal a significant fleet renewal and expansion phase for the airline, which also controls low-cost subsidiary FlyArystan. Air Astana completed an initial public offering in early 2024, raising $370 million and valuing the company at $847 million.
