Air TransportShareholders of Air Astana have approved the acquisition of 25 Airbus A320neo-family aircraft, with options for 25 additional jets, marking the largest order in the airline’s history.
The firm order includes five Airbus A320neo and 20 A321neo aircraft, with deliveries scheduled between 2031 and 2034. The approval follows a memorandum of understanding signed in November 2025 covering up to 50 aircraft as part of the carrier’s fleet renewal program.
The deal strengthens Air Astana’s commitment to the Airbus A320neo family, which forms the backbone of its narrowbody operations. The airline and its low-cost subsidiary FlyArystan currently operate a combined fleet of 62 Boeing and Airbus aircraft.
In parallel with the Airbus order, Air Astana signed a separate agreement in November 2025 with Boeing for up to 15 787-9 Dreamliner widebodies. The airline expects to receive the first four 787-9 aircraft in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Air Astana was also among the early operators of the Embraer E190-E2. The carrier introduced five 108-seat E190-E2 jets configured in two classes between late 2021 and August 2024. The aircraft were returned to their lessor as the airline became involved in legal proceedings with Embraer, ending its operation of the type.
The airline completed an initial public offering in early 2024, raising $370 million and valuing the company at $847 million. Its main shareholders include Kazakhstan’s sovereign wealth fund Samruk-Kazyna, BAE Systems (Kazakhstan) Limited and the Unified Accumulative Pension Fund.
