Air Botswana, the state-owned airline of the southern African country, took delivery of its first Embraer E175 jet on August 24.

The 88-seat aircraft had previously flown with Flybe and has been owned by US-based Regional One since 2022.

The E175 will be the largest aircraft for Air Botswana, which has also flown a 70-seat E170 since 2019, in addition to two ATR 72-600 turboprops received in 2018.

The new jet from Botswana’s flag carrier, registration A2-ABE, was welcomed with a water salute at Gaborone International Airport, the country’s capital.

Air Botsawa flies to a number of domestic destinations, but mainly to neighbouring countries such as Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

The E175 is due to make its revenue service debut on Sunday 1 September on a flight to Cape Town.
