Air China announced on December 30 that it has agreed to purchase 60 Airbus A320neo jets under a deal valued at approximately $9.5 billion.

The airline said the aircraft will be delivered in batches between 2028 and 2032. Several other Chinese carriers, including Spring Airlines and Juneyao Airlines, have also disclosed new Airbus acquisition plans in recent days.

Some of Air China’s newly ordered A320neos will replace older models in the fleet, supporting continued modernization.

This purchase forms part of a broader 2022 agreement between China Aviation Supplies Holding Company (CASC) and Airbus, which covered 132 A320-family aircraft and eight A350s, with a combined value near $17 billion.

China currently represents the world’s second-largest aviation market.

Airbus has maintained a growing presence with its A320neo family, which has seen sustained demand from Chinese carriers investing in fleet renewal and expansion.

Airbus expanded its A320neo family production facilities in Tianjin, inaugurating a second final assembly line in October.

While the European manufacturer is accumulating orders despite an overloaded backlog, Boeing continues to fail to close significant deals with Chinese companies, a consequence of the trade war between the US and China.
