Spanish leisure airline Air Europa may have a new partner after its sale to IAG Group fell through in August.

According to media reports, Air France-KLM is considering acquiring 20% of the carrier, which is owned by Globalia.

Its parent company has acknowledged the interest, but said that there are other airlines and funds exploring a possible deal.

With a fleet of 57 aircraft, including Boeing 737-800s and 787 Dreamliners, Air Europa has an air network that serves destinations in Europe and the Americas from Madrid.

In 2022, the IAG Group, which controls British Airways and Iberia, acquired 20% of Air Europa and was planning to take control of the airline when the pandemic put the process on hold.

After failing to convince the European Commission that the deal did not guarantee competition with other airlines, IAG withdrew its offer in August.

According to Reuters, Air France-KLM said there are discussions about a commercial cooperation with Air Europa within the Sky Team alliance.
