An AirACT Boeing 747-400BDSF cargo aircraft operating flight EK9788 from Dubai exited runway 07L at Hong Kong International Airport at 03:50 local time on October 20. The jet collided with a ground vehicle during landing and subsequently ended up in the sea. Four crew members were hospitalized, while the two people inside the vehicle died.

The accident occurred under clear weather but with crosswinds from 020°. Images indicate significant structural damage, including separation of the tail and deformation of the forward fuselage. The ground vehicle involved was swept into the water during the incident.

Hong Kong authorities confirmed that the aircraft veered off the northern runway after a standard approach and landing had been confirmed by ATC recordings.

The crew had reported no technical issues prior to touchdown and had declared their intention to use 07L. The north runway was closed for investigation, while central and southern runways remained operational.

The Boeing 747-400BDSF entered service in 1993 with All Nippon Airways and underwent cargo conversion in 2011.

AirACT, established in 2024 as an ACMI cargo provider, was operating this service under contract for Emirates Airline. The aircraft’s emergency escape systems were deployed, with both upper deck slides activated.
