Air TransportAirbus has announced a change in the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position for its Commercial Aircraft business, its most important division.
The current incumbent, Christian Scherer, will step down on December 31 and will be replaced by Lars Wagner, who currently serves as CEO of MTU Aero Engines AG, based in Munich.
Wagner will also join the Executive Committee on January 1, 2026, when he will become the new CEO of the Commercial Aircraft business.

The new executive will take over the division with the challenge of maintaining Airbus’s leadership in commercial aircraft sales, particularly thanks to the performance of the A320neo family.
But it will also have to find new customers for other programs, such as the A220 and A330neo, as well as the A350F freighter, which has just lost its launch customer, Air Lease Corporation.
At 50, Lars Wagner holds a degree in aeronautical and mechanical engineering and an MBA. He held management positions at Airbus in Bremen, Hamburg, and Toulouse before moving to MTU in 2025, where he was Chief Operating Officer until taking over as CEO in January 2023.
Scherer, meanwhile, will end his career at Airbus, which began in the 1980s.
