Airbus has confirmed a new agreement to deliver 20 additional Eurofighter Typhoon fighters to Germany, with production to take place at its Manching assembly line near Munich. The first aircraft is scheduled for delivery in 2031, with final delivery expected by 2034.

The contract, valued at €3.75 billion, was authorized by Germany’s budget committee in early October. This procurement aims to enhance the Luftwaffe’s capabilities with updated sensors and electronic warfare systems.

The new Eurofighters will feature the latest electronic E-Scan radar and the Arexis electronic warfare suite, developed by Saab. These upgrades are intended to improve situational awareness and survivability in contested environments.

Eurofighter remains the largest defense program in Europe, involving Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The program supports over 100,000 jobs across Europe, including 25,000 positions in Germany alone.

Production of the Eurofighter involves 120 German suppliers, highlighting the industrial impact of the program within the country. To date, more than 740 Eurofighters have been ordered by nine countries, making it the most widely procured European fighter.

The addition of these aircraft is expected to sustain industrial activity and maintain the skills base in Germany’s aerospace sector.
