Airbus inaugurated its second A320 final assembly line (FAL) in Mobile, Alabama, on October 13. The new line brings the total number of FALs at the site to three.

This expansion adds 350,000 square feet of manufacturing, office, and logistics space. The facility now includes over one million square feet of hangars, new paint shops, and a distribution center.

The project doubles the size of Airbus’s U.S. manufacturing presence and is expected to create approximately 1,000 new jobs. The site now employs more than 2,000 people across 2.5 million square feet.

Christian Scherer, CEO of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, stated that the company aims to reach a monthly production rate of 75 A320-family aircraft by 2027.

“This second A320 production line opening in the U.S. marks another major milestone in our global industrial growth strategy,” Scherer said. “To reach a monthly production rate of 75 A320 Family aircraft in 2027, we have developed a resilient, efficient, and globally diversified network, and with the launch of this second line, Mobile’s production capacity for the A320 Family is effectively doubled.”

The additional capacity is intended to meet sustained demand from North American and Latin American customers.
