Airbus will begin operating its second A320neo family assembly line at the Mobile, Alabama facility in October, aiming to increase production capacity of its single-aisle aircraft in the United States.

The announcement was confirmed by Robin Hayes, CEO of Airbus North America. Some aircraft sections have already been positioned on the new line to start tool certification, a key step before ramping up output.

With the new line, Airbus will operate a total of 13 final assembly lines globally. In addition to Mobile, the A320neo family is assembled in Toulouse and Hamburg, as well as Tianjin, China. The Mobile site was opened ten years ago and has played a growing role in Airbus’s US presence.

In 2019, Airbus added a second assembly line in Mobile dedicated to the A220, complementing the existing line in Mirabel, Canada. The Mobile plant is seen by the company as a valuable asset for accessing the North American market.

Monthly production rate of 75 aircraft

The A320neo family is a key product for Airbus, driven by demand for fuel-efficient single-aisle jets. The European manufacturer has set a goal to reach a monthly production rate of 75 A320neo aircraft by 2027. The A220 line is also expected to reach 14 units per month by 2026.

As of August 2025, Airbus had delivered 333 A320neo family jets and 53 A220s. However, the company faces supply chain challenges, particularly a shortage of A320neo engines like the CFM Leap turbofans.

A recent trade agreement between the US and the European Union eliminated import tariffs on aircraft and components, benefiting Airbus’s operations in Mobile and its North American customers.
