Airbus will inaugurate a second A320neo family assembly line in Tianjin, a port city near Beijing, this week in a low-key event that will exclude Western media coverage, said Reuters.

The move is part of Airbus’ strategy to increase single-aisle jet output, with the new line set to support a planned ramp up to 75 A320neo family aircraft per month by 2027.

The discreet ceremony was designed to minimize attention amid ongoing trade tensions between China and the United States.

This expansion follows the recent opening of another A320neo assembly line in Mobile, Alabama, highlighting Airbus’ dual approach to capacity growth in both China and the US.

Airbus relies on US-sourced components for final assembly operations in both China and Europe, underscoring the interconnected nature of its supply chain.

The company is currently negotiating the sale of up to 500 aircraft to Chinese carriers, which could further reinforce its market position in the region.

Additional production from Tianjin and Mobile is expected to support delivery targets as Airbus continues its industrial ramp-up.
