Air TransportAirlink is in the final stages of preparing to receive its first E195-E2, as shown in a recent video released by Embraer. The aircraft, painted with Airlink’s signature sunbird livery, is the first of ten jets expected to join the South African carrier’s fleet by the end of year.
The new E195-E2s will be leased from Azorra, following an agreement between the lessor and Airlink announced by Embraer. Deliveries are set to continue through 2027, gradually expanding the airline’s operational capacity.
The E195-E2 will be configured in a single-class layout with 136 seats, a significant increase compared to the dual-class, 107-seat E195s currently in service. This change is expected to boost seat availability and operational efficiency on domestic and regional routes.
Headquartered in Johannesburg, Airlink operates an all-Embraer fleet of 64 aircraft, covering models from the ERJ family to the first-generation E-Jets. The addition of the E195-E2 represents the airline’s first foray into Embraer’s second-generation E-Jet line.

In August 2024, Qatar Airways acquired a 25% stake in Airlink, the maximum allowed under South African law, further highlighting the carrier’s strategic importance in the region.
With the arrival of the E195-E2, Airlink is expected to further strengthen its position in the African aviation market, offering greater capacity and operational flexibility. The company plans to integrate all ten E2 jets into its fleet by 2027, supporting ongoing growth in passenger demand.
