All Nippon Airways (ANA) waited almost four months to sign agreements to acquire new aircraft announced in February.

The Japanese carrier signed agreements with Airbus and Embraer at the Paris Air Show, although it also revealed plans to purchase from Boeing as well.

The European planemaker will supply 27 aircraft from the A320neo family, including 24 A321neos and three ultra-long-range A321XLRs.

ANA itself will have 14 A321neos, while subsidiary Peach Aviation will keep the remaining 10 A321neos and three A321XLRs.

Embraer, in turn, ratified the sale of up to 20 E190-E2s to All Nippon, of which 15 are firm orders and the rest are purchase options.

The jets will have around 100 seats and will take over not only regional routes but also some domestic flights currently operated with Boeing 737-800s.

ANA’s reason is that the Japanese population has been shrinking and this is affecting demand on some routes.

In addition to these orders, All Nippon exercised the purchase option for 10 737 MAX 8s and five 787 Dreamliners from Boeing.
