Air TransportAmerican Airlines began offering complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi on over 2 million of its flights per year across the fleet starting this month. The rollout initiated in January 2026 and covers all regional single-aisle, two-class aircraft, as well as new Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 deliveries.
The implementation will proceed in phases, with nearly all American Airlines flights expected to feature free Wi-Fi by early spring 2026. The service, sponsored by AT&T, is available to AAdvantage members, who can connect, stream, and share content throughout their journey at no extra charge.
“Free high-speed Wi-Fi isn’t just a perk — it’s essential for today’s travelers. That’s why we’re proud to begin rolling out this new offering, sponsored by AT&T, across the majority of our fleet,” said Heather Garboden, Chief Customer Officer at American Airlines.
American Airlines has equipped more than 900 mainline aircraft with satellite-based high-speed Wi-Fi through Viasat or Intelsat. The carrier says that leads the industry in the number of aircraft offering satellite connectivity.
Once the rollout concludes, every AAdvantage member will have access to complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi on nearly all American Airlines flights. “Once roll out is completed, every AAdvantage member can stay connected, stream and share almost anywhere their journey takes them for free,” Garboden added.
