Embraer has begun the structural assembly of Austria’s first C-390 Millennium airlifter.
The European country ordered four multi-role aircraft in a deal made in partnership with the Netherlands, which acquired five C-390s.
The contract was signed last year, when the two nations defined a joint effort to support the new transport aircraft.
To mark the event, Embraer held a ceremony at its Gavião Peixoto facilities, where the C-390 is produced, which was attended by an Austrian delegation.
The delivery of Austria’s first C-390 is scheduled for 2027.
“We’re thrilled to start production of the first aircraft for Austria and we look forward to delivering the first aircraft to the Austrian Air Force soon. The C-390 is setting new standards as a medium airlift, truly multi-mission aircraft. It offers an unbeatable combination of the latest technology, reliability, and low operational costs, with unmatched performance,” said Bosco da Costa Junior, CEO of Embraer Defense & Security.

There are currently 10 C-390s in service, seven in the Brazilian Air Force, two in the Portuguese Air Force, and one aircraft in Hungary. According to Embraer, these aircraft have already accumulated 16,300 flight hours with a 99% completion rate.
With a capacity to carry up to 26 tons, the C-390 Millennium has firm orders for 42 aircraft from eight countries, in addition to having been selected by Sweden and Slovakia, but whose contracts are still pending.
