Avianca Airlines announced the appointment of Gabriel Oliva as president of the Avianca Group on Wednesday, November 12, as part of the company’s succession plan.

The leadership transition follows Frederico Pedreira’s decision to step down as CEO on February 28, concluding a five-year term at the helm of the company.

The process is part of a strategy designed for the development of internal talents and strengthening management, according to Adrian Neuhauser, CEO of the Abra Group: “We continue to strengthen Avianca’s leadership team while executing the succession plan designed for our talent.”

Pedreira led Avianca during a period of transformation, with operational and financial advances that consolidated the company’s position. “Leading Avianca was an extraordinary honor and a true journey,” said Frederico Pedreira, CEO of Avianca.

Gabriel Oliva has over 20 years of leadership experience, 14 of which are in the aviation industry. Oliva joined the company in 2021, initially as CEO of Avianca Cargo and later as Chief Operating Officer.

“I am very grateful, excited, and motivated by this appointment,” said Gabriel Oliva, president of the Avianca Group.

In 2024, Avianca transported over 38 million passengers and expanded its network to more than 160 routes and 80 destinations, consolidating its relevant role in the Latin American market.

The Colombian airline is part of the Abra Group, which also includes GOL Linhas Aéreas and a stake in the Spanish Wamos Air. This week, the group and the ultra-low-cost airline Chile SKY Airline celebrated a pre-agreement to integrate it into the network.
