Avianca has received its first Airbus A320neo equipped with the Airspace cabin, which now counts with 135 aircraft for short and medium-haul routes. The newly incorporated aircraft is already integrated into the company’s network, which also operates 16 wide-body jets and 9 freighters.

The arrival of the A320neo is part of an order for 138 units placed by Abra Group, the holding company that includes Avianca, GOL Linhas Aéreas, and Wamos.

According to the company, the new Airspace cabin offers XL overhead compartments, dynamic LED lighting, and greater comfort for passengers. ‘We are committed to providing an enhanced experience and reducing environmental impact,’ stated Adrian Neuhauser, CEO of Avianca.

The A320neo utilizes technologies that provide a significant reduction in fuel consumption and emissions. These features contribute to the group’s strategy of aligning operational growth with environmental goals.

In addition to the A320neo, Abra’s fleet plan includes 96 Boeing 737 MAX exclusively for GOL, as well as five Airbus A350 and up to seven Airbus A330neo, which are contracted through leasing with Avolon.

Rumors indicate that the widebodies are currently at Azul Linhas Aéreas, which is expected to return them amid judicial recovery. If confirmed, the addition would break GOL’s tradition of operating a single fleet of 737s, despite having inherited larger aircraft from VARIG in the past.

Abra is also diversifying its activities by opening a subsidiary in Chile aimed at providing ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) services to third parties.
