Bangladesh Air Force Chengdu F-7 fighter jet crashes into school campus in Dhaka

A two-seat Chengdu F-7 BGI fighter jet crashed into a school and college campus in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Monday afternoon.

The Bangladesh Air Force trainer aircraft was taking off from an air base in Kurmitola when it experienced a technical problem.

The pilot lost control and crashed into the aircraft, killing at least 19 people and injuring 164 others, according to initial reports.

According to the Air Force, Air Force Lieutenant Md. Touqir Islam attempted to fly the aircraft from Ghanbati to the Janbati area to minimize serious damage, but was unsuccessful. He died in the crash.

The F-7 fighter jet is produced in China as a licensed variant of the Russian MiG-21. A total of 50 jets are operated by the country, which also flies eight MiG-29s and six FT-6s, based on the older MiG-19.
