Binter Canarias, the airline of the archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, has announced a new order for four ATR 72-600 turboprops.

The agreement with the manufacturer ATR also includes options for five more aircraft in the future.

The 70-seat turboprops will be equipped with Pratt & Whitney PW127XT engines, which incorporate improvements to make them more efficient, such as a longer wing time between inspections.

Founded in 1989, Binter has been operating ATRs ever since, when it took delivery of an ATR 72-200. The carrier currently operates 27 of these turboprops, most of them of the ATR 72-600 variant.

Binter CEO Rodolfo Núñez said the new agreement with ATR “underscores our commitment to ensuring maximum comfort and, in turn, connectivity for our passengers.”

Fleet features Embraer E195-E2 jets

Binter has been implementing a fleet modernization and expansion plan in recent years that also includes the introduction of Embraer’s E195-E2 jet.

The 132-passenger aircraft has been operating with the airline since 2019 and there are now 15 of them in service, out of an order for 16 jets.

The E195-E2s are used on longer-haul routes, including to Madrid, Spain, while the ATR 72s fly between intra-island destinations such as Funchal, taking advantage of their ability to operate from smaller runways.
