Boeing plans to increase 737 Max production from October

Manufacturer seeks US government approval to raise monthly output amid new international orders

Boeing is preparing to raise the production rate of its 737 MAX aircraft starting in October, pending approval from US authorities. The move aims to address a growing backlog of international orders and adjust the manufacturer’s output after recent safety concerns.

Currently, Boeing is subject to a monthly cap of 38 aircraft, imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) following a safety incident in early 2024. According to sources cited by Bloomberg, the company is seeking permission to increase output to 42 units per month in October, with further increments planned for April and again by the end of 2026.

The long-term target is to reach a rate of 53 aircraft produced monthly by 2026. This expansion would be the highest production level for the 737 MAX program and reflects rising global demand, particularly from carriers in China, Uzbekistan, and Turkey. These airlines have placed substantial orders in recent months, contributing to the need for higher delivery volumes.

While US officials have highlighted a significant upcoming order from China during recent trade talks, no specific figures have been disclosed so far. Boeing’s negotiations with the US government also align with broader federal efforts to boost domestic manufacturing and export capacity.

The 737 MAX family, Boeing’s primary single-aisle jet line, is a core product for the manufacturer and a key asset for airlines operating short- and medium-haul routes. The anticipated increase in production is expected to impact aircraft availability for global carriers and may influence market competition among narrowbody aircraft manufacturers.
