Air TransportBoeing has removed 33 orders for the 777X from its backlog in October, following extended delays in the aircraft’s certification, revealed Flight Global. By the end of September, the company listed 473 units of the 777X in its backlog.
The adjustment came after Boeing determined that these orders were unlikely to result in completed sales, given the ongoing delay in the 777-9’s certification and a revised first delivery now expected in 2027. The company confirmed the change as it released updated backlog figures in its third-quarter financial report.
Boeing had 84 orders for the 777X through October. The ASC-606 accounting standard was used to reclassify orders that are considered improbable to convert into deliveries, impacting how the company reports its backlog.
The 777X program has faced several years of certification setbacks, pushing deliveries back and forcing a reevaluation of its sales pipeline. Previous support for certain sales came during US trade negotiations, with the involvement of President Donald Trump at the time.

By the end of October, Boeing’s total backlog reached 5,911 jets, of which 4,312 were 737 family aircraft. In the same month, the company delivered 53 jets, including 40 737s and 7 787s.
Boeing plans to pursue additional aircraft sales at the Dubai Airshow as it navigates ongoing program delays and a shifting market environment.
