Boeing has introduced its Collaborative and Transformational Rotorcraft (CxR) concept at the annual Association of the United States Army event last week. The CxR is an unmanned, modular tiltrotor designed for a range of military missions.

The US Army has stated that future warfare will rely on both manned and unmanned platforms operating together. Boeing’s CxR concept is intended to support this approach by providing a flexible platform for multiple mission profiles.

The CxR features a modular core that can be reconfigured for missions such as attack, security, and surveillance. Additional mission sets include contested logistics and maritime strike operations.

Boeing is optimizing the CxR’s design to enable rapid delivery timelines and reduced operational costs. The company aims to offer a platform that can be adapted to different requirements across military branches.

The CxR is capable of vertical takeoff and landing at high speeds, while also providing low-speed handling characteristics similar to a helicopter. This combination is intended to expand operational flexibility in diverse environments.

Boeing states that the CxR platform has potential to meet mission requirements across all branches of the armed forces. The company continues to refine the concept and configuration in alignment with customer input and operational needs.

Recently, Sikorsky also revealed a new class of unmanned hybrid electric VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft, the Nomad family.
