Boliviana de Aviación, the country’s state-owned flag carrier, received a Boeing 767-300ER in early December to reinforce its long-haul fleet, currently composed of three Airbus A330-200s.

The aircraft, registration N423AX, belongs to Omni Air International and was acquired through a wet lease.

The jet has a capacity for 232 passengers and is expected to be used on the route between Viru Viru International Airport in Santa Cruz de la Sierra and Miami.

Boliviana operated the Boeing 767 until 2023, when it retired its last aircraft, which was replaced by the A330. It also has 15 Boeing 737 NG aircraft in its fleet, half of which are out of service.

Between January and October 2025, the company accumulated a deficit of 215 million bolivianos (US$31 million) and has a debt of US$37 million with lessors and maintenance companies.

BoA’s general manager, Juan José Galvarro, ruled out any privatization plans, but government members are considering a public-private partnership to keep the airline afloat.
