Business AviationBombardier announced on December 19 that its Global 8000 business jet has received certification from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). According to the company, the aircraft is the fastest business jet currently in service.
Bombardier affirms that the Global 8000 is the only four-zone business jet offering a range of 8,000 nautical miles and can reach a maximum speed of Mach 0.95. The aircraft features a cabin altitude of 2,691 feet, the lowest in the segment, and claims takeoff and landing performance comparable to that of a light jet.
“This accomplishment is a direct result of the commitment to excellence and dedicated work of our highly skilled employees, suppliers, Transport Canada and the FAA for a collaborative, effective process,” said Stephen McCullough, Senior Vice President, Engineering and Product Development at Bombardier.

The FAA certification follows Transport Canada’s Type Certification secured on November 5, with entry into service taking place in December. Approval from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) remains pending.
“Attaining the Global 8000 certification from the FAA sets new performance standards in the industry and marks one of the final chapters in our very successful development program for this groundbreaking business jet,” McCullough added.
In the ultra-long-range segment, the Bombardier Global 8000 competes directly with the Gulfstream G800. While Bombardier emphasizes speed, the Gulfstream G800 offers greater range, highlighting different priorities among leading manufacturers.
Gulfstream Aerospace delivered the first G800 business jet on August 27 after receiving both FAA and EASA certification in April. The G800, which succeeded the G650, is recognized as the world’s longest-range business jet.
