Brazil’s ANAC lifts restrictions on Aerolíneas Argentinas operations

Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) has lifted the precautionary measure that had restricted the expansion of Aerolíneas Argentinas in the country. The ruling, published on August 15 clears the way for the airline to request new routes and additional flights in Brazil.

With this decision, Aerolíneas Argentinas regains permission to expand operations at five major hubs: Brasília International Airport – Presidente Juscelino Kubitschek (SBBR), Rio de Janeiro International Airport – Galeão (SBGL), Salvador International Airport – Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães (SBSV), Curitiba International Airport – Afonso Pena (SBCT) and Florianópolis International Airport – Hercílio Luz (SBFL).

The new ordinance replaces the previous sanction imposed in June, which had barred the airline from opening new bases or increasing scheduled flights in Brazil under a new regulation.

According to the airline, the issues behind the sanction were strictly documentary, related to procedures prior to 2023, and did not involve operational safety or service quality.

Aerolíneas Argentinas currently operates 88 weekly flights between Argentina and Brazil, serving cities such as Curitiba, Florianópolis, Porto Alegre, Porto Seguro, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo. Brazil remains the carrier’s largest international market.

“Brazil is Aerolíneas Argentinas’ main international market, with 88 weekly flights,” the airline stated. “With the lifting of this sanction, we can once again move forward with plans to expand our network, offering more and better connectivity options for tourism and business.”

With the restriction lifted, the airline is once again planning to expand its network, aiming to strengthen connectivity for both tourism and business travel between the two countries.
