Buraq Air announced the delivery of its sole Embraer E190, the first of its type to operate in Libya, after the aircraft landed at Benghazi International Airport on November 13th.

The jet, registration 5A-BAF, arrived from Portugal and now integrates the company’s fleet with a capacity for 100 passengers in economy class.

According to the company, the arrival of the Embraer 190 represents a new chapter in its history and in Libyan aviation, incorporating a regional aircraft alongside its Airbus and Boeing models.

The Embraer 190 has serial number 19000568 and was originally delivered in 2012 to Vale do Rio Doce mining company in Brazil as a VIP aircraft. The jet was withdrawn from service in March 2023.

After being taken out of operation, the E190 was transferred to Portugal in October 2025, where it remained in Alverca until mid-November. During this period, the interior layout would have been adapted to accommodate 100 seats, making the aircraft suitable for commercial routes.

Buraq Air currently also operates three Airbus A320s and one Boeing 737-800, comprising a diversified fleet to serve different route profiles. The Embraer 190 is expected to increase operational flexibility, especially in regional markets.
