Air TransportThe second customer to announce its selection, CMA CGM will be the launch customer for Airbus’ new A350F freighter. The French-based logistics company revealed the news on its social media last week.
Owner of a fleet of six heavy freighters, five of them Boeing 777Fs, CMA CGM had announced a Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus to acquire four A350Fs in November 2021.
The agreement was revealed months after the aircraft’s launch, with an order from Air Lease Corporation (ALC). The US lessor, however, canceled all seven orders last year.
CMA CGM, on the other hand, took the opposite approach, doubling its order to eight aircraft, also in 2024. The first of these freighters, capable of carrying more than 110 tons of cargo, is expected to be delivered in late 2027.
As of July, Airbus had recorded a total of 65 firm orders for the A350F, an aircraft that competes with the Boeing 777-8F, both launched to replace models that will be discontinued due to new ICAO emissions regulations starting in 2027.
