Air TransportThe Swiss leisure airline Edelweiss, part of the Lufthansa Group, announced the addition of its first Airbus A320neo.
The jet, registered HB-JDB, will be retired from the SWISS fleet in April 2026, and the sister airline will also transfer an A320ceo (HB-JLQ) in October of this year.
The A320 HB-JLQ is an older aircraft, with 14 years in service, while the A320neo was delivered by Airbus in 2020. Both are configured with 180 seats in a single-class layout.
With the two new aircraft, Edelweiss’s narrowbody fleet will reach 16 A320s, operating from its Zurich hub.

Edelweiss did not comment on whether it will change the seating capacity of the two jets. Of the 14 A320s, 13 have a 174-seat layout, while the HB-JLP aircraft has 180 seats.
“I am delighted that Edelweiss is continuing to develop on short- and medium-haul routes and that we are taking an important step towards modernizing our short-haul fleet with the first Airbus A320neo. The aircraft combines state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly technology with greater comfort for our guests,” said Bernd Bauer, CEO of Edelweiss.
In addition to fuel savings of around 15% compared to the previous generation, the A320neo will allow Edelweiss to launch new routes to more distant destinations, thanks to the aircraft’s greater range.
