Embraer and Hindalco evaluate partnership for aerospace aluminum in India

Agreement aims at local supply of raw materials and complements initiatives to facilitate the sale of its aircraft in the country

Embraer has signed a memorandum of understanding with Hindalco Industries to assess the production and supply, in India, of aluminum raw materials aimed at the aerospace sector. Hindalco is one of the largest Indian industrial groups in the metals segment, operating in aluminum, rolling, and products for industrial chains.

The initiative is part of Embraer’s effort to expand its presence in the country and build ties with local companies. The Indian government has conditioned relevant foreign projects to the formation of partnerships and production on national territory, which has led manufacturers to seek suppliers and industrial agreements in the domestic market.

“This joint action reinforces our focus to identifying local partners that can become our suppliers and, in doing so, accelerate the development of the Indian industrial base,” said Roberto Chaves, Executive Vice President of Global Procurement and Supply Chain at Embraer. “The initiative enhances Embraer’s engagement to advancing the aerospace ecosystem in India, creating long‑term value across the entire supply chain”.

According to Embraer, the evaluation cycle in India includes capabilities such as assembly of aerostructures, machining, forging and casting, composite materials, wiring, and hardware and software development.

Aluminum remains a central raw material in aviation, even with the increasing use of composite materials in newer aircraft. For Embraer, the possibility of accessing local suppliers can support both commercial and executive aviation programs as well as military projects.

In addition to the agreement with Hindalco, the manufacturer has already announced understandings with Mahindra, related to the KC-390 cargo aircraft, and with the Adani group, involving commercial jets from the E1 and E2 families.

Embraer’s fleet in operation in India is small and concentrated in niches. It includes three EMB 145s adapted for the Indian Air Force’s early warning missions “Netra,” some executive jets used by the government, and ERJ145 and E175 aircraft operated by the regional Star Air, based in Bangalore.
