Embraer has begun production of the first C-390 Millennium aircraft for the Netherlands at its facility in Gavião Peixoto, Brazil, the company announced on November 10.

The Netherlands ordered five C-390 Millennium multi-mission transport aircraft under a joint European initiative to renew tactical airlift capabilities in cooperation with Austria and Sweden.

In total, the program covers 13 aircraft, with options for up to seven additional units among participating nations.

The C-390 Millennium is capable of carrying up to 26 tons of cargo and can perform missions such as aerial refueling, medical evacuation, and paratrooper deployment. The aircraft competes directly with the Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules in the global military tactical transport market.

To date, 11 countries have placed orders for at least 53 C-390 aircraft, according to Embraer.
