Embraer, along with the carriers Finnair and Nordic Regional Airlines (Norra), celebrated two decades of operation of E-Jet models in the fleets of Finnish companies. The event took place at Helsinki Airport and brought together executives from all three companies to mark this historic date.

The celebration included flight AY915, with the special call sign ‘FIN20Y’, which repeated the first commercial route performed in 2005 from Helsinki to Oslo.

The milestone of 20 years refers to the first commercial flight of Finnair with the Embraer E170, which took place on October 1, 2005. Norra began its operations with Embraer jets in October 2012, strengthening the presence of E-Jets in regional aviation in Finland. Since then, the Brazilian aircraft have become an essential part of the air network of these companies.

Finnair’s E-Jet

During the event, Christine Rovelli from Finnair emphasized the importance of Embraer jets for regional connectivity and operational efficiency.

“For 20 years, the Embraer fleet has been essential to regional connectivity, feeding traffic into our Helsinki hub. Operated by our partner Norra, the fleet continues to deliver excellent punctuality and reliability. We’re now renewing the cabins to further enhance the customer experience,” he stated.

Juha Ojala from Norra stated that E-Jets represent a fundamental pillar in the company’s activities. “Norra has succeeded with Embraer for 20 years. The E-Jets are the reliable backbone of our operations, enabling us to deliver efficient, high-quality regional service to Finnair’s customers. We’re honoured to be part of this journey and to celebrate this milestone together,” Juha added.

In addition to speeches, the celebration included special giveaways and gifts for passengers on the commemorative flight. Finnair currently operates a fleet of 12 E190 aircraft, each with a capacity for 100 passengers. The company has been undergoing a cabin renewal process since October 2024.
