Austrian Airlines will transfer its 17 Embraer E195 jets to the Air Dolomiti, the airline confirmed to Aero Telegraph.

The Austrian airline, part of the Lufthansa Group, had already decided to cease operations with the regional aircraft, as reported days ago.

The process of removing the aircraft is expected to occur by 2028, with the first transfer scheduled for the end of 2025.

The E195 was introduced to the Austrian Airlines fleet in 2016, replacing the Fokker 70 and Fokker 100 models, which were discontinued by the airline. With the departure of the Embraer aircraft, Austrian Airlines will operate only Airbus A320 family aircraft on short and medium-haul flights and the Boeing 787-9 on long-haul routes.

After the completion of the transfer, Austrian Airlines’ short and medium-haul fleet will be reduced from 68 to 46 aircraft. As part of the renewal plan, six new Airbus jets will be added to the fleet, while twelve Boeing 787-9s are expected to strengthen long-haul operations in the coming years.

Most of the Embraer E195s will be transferred directly to Air Dolomiti, another subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group. The aircraft may be employed on flights operated from the Vienna hub, under wet-lease agreements or according to the group’s demand, the site reported.

Four E195 aircraft have yet to have their destinations defined. The increase in demand for flights with a lower volume of passengers has led Austrian Airlines to utilize wet-lease services, a solution that may continue based on future operational needs.

The Lufthansa Group had been evaluating a new order for jets of up to 150 seats, conversing with Airbus and Embraer, but ultimately preferred the A220 for Lufthansa City Airlines.
