An Embraer ERJ-145 operated by AirJet Angola was destroyed by fire after a runway excursion at Kolwezi Airport in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on November 17.

The aircraft, registration D2-AJB, was carrying a delegation from the Ministry of Mines and all occupants evacuated safely. One of the passengers on board recorded a video of the aircraft during its approach and rough landing.

The incident occurred as the aircraft arrived from Kinshasa, with an intermediate stop in Lubumbashi. The delegation was traveling to Kolwezi to address official matters related to a recent mining accident in the Lualaba region.

According to authorities, the ERJ-145 left the paved section of the 7,900-foot runway during deceleration and came to rest on unpaved ground. A fire broke out after the aircraft stopped, but no fatalities or injuries were reported among the passengers or crew.

Aviation investigators from the Democratic Republic of the Congo are expected to examine several factors, including runway conditions, prevailing weather at the time, and the operational status of the aircraft. The investigation will determine the sequence of events leading to the accident.

AirJet Angola operates regional and charter services across Central and Southern Africa. The ERJ-145 involved was originally delivered to Swiss carrier Crossair in 2001 and had joined the AirJet fleet in 2024.
