Embraer Phenom 300 business jet skids off the runway at the airport in Los Angeles
The passengers and the pilot of an Embraer Phenom 300 business jet went through a somewhat shocking experience early Tuesday night in Los Angeles.
The registration aircraft N16DF, belonging to the company Skystallion LLC, had taken off from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, bound for Los Angeles.
After landing at Hawthorne Municipal Airport, around 6:30 pm (local time), the Phenom 300 was unable to brake in time and overran the runway, breaking through a fence and stopping a few meters from an avenue. None of the passengers and crew were injured, according to firefighters who responded to the incident.
The Phenom 300 registration N16DF was manufactured in 2013 and its documentation was up to date, according to the FAA, the US civil aviation agency. The tracking data for the flight in question was taken offline at the request of the owner.
Hawthorne Airport has a single runway of 1,278 meters, which is just a few kilometers from Los Angeles International Airport. The airfield has installations by Tesla and SpaceX, both owned by billionaire Elon Musk.
At the time of the incident, it was raining in the region, which may have influenced the landing operation.
