DefenseEmbraer is preparing to deliver the first two A-29 Super Tucano aircraft to the Uruguayan Air Force (FAU), with an official handover ceremony scheduled for Feb. 24 at General Cesáreo Berisso Air Base.
The FAU published an image of two aircraft at Embraer’s facility in Brazil and said: “Since yesterday, the formal acceptance process of the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft has officially begun at Embraer’s factory in Gavião Peixoto, Brazil.”
The aircraft will receive the serial numbers FAU 250 and FAU 251. They are expected to enter service with Air Squadron No. 2 at Air Brigade II in Durazno.
The unit currently operates Cessna A-37B Dragonfly jets, which are set to be replaced as the turboprop aircraft are inducted.

The A-29 is used for surveillance, patrol, reconnaissance and light-attack missions, including operations against illicit flights linked to smuggling and drug trafficking. Uruguay’s acquisition follows recent deliveries of the type to Paraguay and Portugal.
Uruguay structured the acquisition in two stages. In August 2024, it signed a contract for one aircraft with options for five additional units. In January 2025, the air force exercised those options, confirming a total order of six A-29 Super Tucanos.
