Embraer presents the E195-E2 to Mexicana de Aviación
Following a presentation in Belgrade, Serbia, on September 17, Embraer flew its E195-E2 Tech Eagle demo jet to Mexico City for a visit to the facilities of Mexicana de Aviación.
The aircraft, registered PR-ZIQ, arrived in the Mexican capital on Thursday and the following day participated in a presentation to employees, government officials and guests at the company’s Hangar B at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport.
In June, Mexicana de Aviación and Embraer announced an agreement for 10 E190-E2 and 10 E195-E2 aircraft that will be configured with 108 and 132 seats in a single-class layout.
According to what was revealed to the local press at the event, the first E2 is due to land in Mexico on May 7, 2025. Deliveries are expected to be completed in 2027.
Rebirth in December
Mexicana de Aviación was founded in 1921 and is one of the oldest airlines in the world. However, in 2010, the then private carrier went bankrupt.
The Mexican government decided to acquire its assets and relaunch it with the aim of offering more affordable flights. In August of last year, Mexicana was reborn and in December it carried out its first flights.
However, the airline had difficulty forming a fleet to maintain a minimum flight network.
Unable to lease aircraft on the market, the country’s government turned to three Boeing 737-800s from the Mexican Air Force, in addition to signing a wet-leasing contract for three other ERJ 145 regional jets.
Mexicana de Aviación will be the fourth operator of the E2 family in the Americas, after Azul, Placar and Porter Airlines.
