The Chief Operating Officer of Embraer’s defense division, Walter Pinto Junior, told Janes that Portugal’s first A-29N Super Tucano will be delivered this year.
The forecast is in line with a statement by the Chief of Staff of the Portuguese Air Force, General João Cartaxo Alves, who last December announced the first delivery in the last quarter of 2025.
The advanced training and close air support aircraft will be the first of the variant designed for NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), which includes communications equipment and other integrated systems.
The Air Force signed a contract with Embraer worth 200 million euros last December, which includes a flight simulator and logistics support package.
Part of the assembly work for the A-29Ns will be done by OGMA, an Embraer subsidiary located in Portugal.

According to Pinto Junior, Portugal’s Super Tucanos are already in production and should be delivered by 2027 or 2028.
After three years without orders, Embraer managed to close deals to sell the light attack aircraft in 2024.
In addition to Portugal, Paraguay purchased six A-29s, Uruguay another 12 aircraft, and an unidentified African country ordered six aircraft.
