Embraer held a ceremony on October 28, in Brazil, to cut the first metal piece of the C-390 Millennium for the Swedish Air Force. The event marks the beginning of the production of the four aircraft ordered by the Scandinavian country.

The contract is part of a partnership between Sweden, the Netherlands, and Austria, aimed at modernizing and standardizing the military transport fleets of these nations. The joint program provides for the delivery of 13 C-390 Millennium jets, with five for the Netherlands and four for each of the other partners.

Sweden signed the acquisition agreement with Embraer, including seven additional purchase options, which expands the potential for future orders from other European air forces. The chosen model is the multi-mission variant, capable of meeting different operational demands.

According to the Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV), joining the group offers logistical and financial benefits, such as reduced costs and shorter delivery times. The agency highlighted that the joint purchase favors interoperability among allies and facilitates long-term support.

“The acquisition of the C-390 represents a step forward in strengthening transport capability and elevates the level of integration of the Swedish Air Force with European partners,” said Major General Jonas Wikman, commander of the Swedish Air Force.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalizing the collaboration between Sweden, the Netherlands, and Austria was signed the previous year and expanded in April, when the FMV officially confirmed its participation. The agreement is part of a strategy for capability sharing within NATO.

The production of the first C-390 for Sweden is on schedule, with deliveries planned for the coming years. Embraer is maintaining negotiations to expand the customer base for the C-390 in Europe and other markets.
