Embraer has teased Mexicana de Aviación’s first E195-E2, showing the tail of the aircraft already in the airline’s colors.

According to the company, the jet has entered the final assembly line at its facilities in Brazil, but did not reveal when it will be completed.

Mexicana de Aviación was rescued from bankruptcy by the country’s government and has been offering lower-priced flights in the country as a counterpoint to private carriers such as Aeromexico.

The state-owned airline, however, has a limited fleet of aircraft based on three old Boeing 737s loaned by the Mexican Air Force.

In June of last year, the Mexican government placed an order with Embraer for 20 E2 jets, 10 of which were the E190-E2 version, with 108 passengers, and 10 of which were the E195-E2, with 132 seats.

These planes were supposed to start being delivered in May, but the schedule was delayed and the first of them will be delivered at the end of July, revealed Embraer CEO Francisco Gomes Neto.

This is an E190-E2 that is in the final stages of assembly, said the chief executive.

Mexican will be the third operator of the E2 family in the Americas, after Azul and Porter Airlines, from Canada.
