Emirates Airline plans to grow its active Airbus A380 fleet from 94 aircraft to approximately 110 by the end of 2026, according to president Tim Clark in comments to Aviation Week during the APG World Connect conference in Seville.

Clark highlighted the carrier’s strategy to modernize its A380 fleet, noting that Emirates has begun manufacturing interiors in-house to support cabin upgrades and improve reliability.

Emirates currently owns 116 A380s, with 94 aircraft operational. The airline is increasing its in-house capability for engine overhauls as part of its efforts to sustain the type’s service life.

The $6 billion retrofit program includes comprehensive cabin refurbishments, which are scheduled for completion within 18 months. This initiative aims to ensure product consistency across the expanding A380 fleet.

Emirates intends to operate the A380 until at least 2041, despite maintenance challenges associated with the aircraft type. The carrier’s decision is driven partly by strong demand for premium seating, with Clark stating that each premium seat was sold up to three times during the summer.

Meanwhile, the Dubai-based carrier continues to expand its fleet. As of November, it had received 13 of 65 Airbus A350-900 jets. The future huge fleet of Boeing 777X should only start to be delivered from 2027 due to delays in the certification of the twin-engine aircraft.
