Emirates President Tim Clark voiced frustration after Boeing officially postponed first deliveries of the 777-9 to 2027, following confirmation that certification will not conclude until late 2026.

The announcement surprised Emirates, which holds orders for 170 777-9s and 35 777-8s, and had expected its first 777-9 in October 2025 under its contract with Boeing. The carrier has now faced multiple delivery deferrals for the program.

“I’m a little bit upset. Maybe they should have told us first before making the public statement that 2027 would be the delivery year,” said Tim Clark, President of Emirates, according to Aviation Week.

Boeing’s extended certification timeline comes as the FAA process continues, despite ongoing resource challenges. “I’m being told the FAA certification process continues, even though they are not being paid,” Clark noted.

In response to the latest delay, Emirates revised its cabin interior designs for the 777-9 earlier this year. Its equipment suppliers are working to support the updated initial configuration.

Clark also reiterated his push for a longer 777X variant, the 777-10, stating it would be around 150 inches longer than the 777-9.
