Emirates Airline announced an additional order for 65 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, valued at $38 billion, during the Dubai Airshow on November 17. The agreement also includes 130 additional GE9X engines.

The order is part of Emirates’ long-term commitment to Boeing and GE Aerospace and aligns with the carrier’s growth strategy for Dubai. Emirates intends to support US manufacturing while expanding its widebody fleet.

With this order, Emirates increases its total backlog with Boeing to 315 widebody aircraft, including 270 777X family jets. The airline remains the largest operator of the Boeing 777 globally.

Deliveries for the new 777-9s are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027. Emirates’ total order for GE9X engines now stands at 540 units.

“Emirates is already the largest operator of the Boeing 777 and we are expanding our commitment to the program today with additional orders valued at $38 billion,” said HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, CEO of the Emirates Airline and Group.

“We are deeply honored that Emirates has once again selected the Boeing 777X to power its future,” said Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

“We are proud to deepen our decades-long partnership with Emirates,” said Russell Stokes, President & CEO, Commercial Engines & Services for GE Aerospace.

The new order comes at a time when Emirates has criticized delays in the 777X program, which will only have its first aircraft delivered in 2027.

The Dubai-based airline has had to change its fleet strategy due to the delays, forcing it to extend the operation of its Airbus A380s amid a shortage of more efficient aircraft.
