Ethiopian Airlines has placed an order for six Airbus A350-900 aircraft during the Dubai Airshow. The agreement further develops the carrier’s relationship with Airbus and was announced at the event in Dubai.

This order strengthens Ethiopian Airlines’ position as the largest A350 operator in Africa. The carrier’s CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, stated, “We are happy to expand the size of our Airbus fleet with this order and strengthen our partnership with Airbus. As the continent’s leading airline and largest A350 operator, this historic order further supports our vision to grow sustainably while delivering a world-class travel experience to our passengers and reinforcing our position as Africa’s aviation leader.”

The agreement comes a little over four years after Ethiopian Airlines converted four A350-900 orders to the larger A350-1000 variant, all of which have since been delivered. The current A350 fleet comprises 22 A350-900s and four A350-1000s.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, EVP Sales at Airbus Commercial Aircraft, commented, “We are proud to further deepen our partnership with Ethiopian Airlines, a long-standing Airbus customer and a benchmark of excellence in African aviation. The A350’s technology, efficiency, and versatility will bring more value to Ethiopian’s operations.”

In addition to expanding its Airbus fleet, Ethiopian Airlines continues to diversify its long-haul capabilities with agreements involving Boeing aircraft, including the 777-9.
