Etihad Airways has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321LR, marking the beginning of a new phase in the airline’s fleet expansion strategy. The handover took place at Airbus’s Hamburg facility in Germany.

This aircraft is the first of 30 A321LRs scheduled to join Etihad’s fleet. With an extended range compared to standard narrowbody aircraft, the A321LR allows Etihad to serve more destinations while offering widebody-level comfort on shorter routes thanks to its 4,000 nm (7,400 km) range.

It introduces the airline’s first-ever narrowbody First Suites, with enclosed private spaces, lie-flat beds, and 20-inch 4K screens.

“Today marks an extraordinary moment for Etihad as we welcome an aircraft that changes everything we thought possible on a single-aisle plane. The A321LR enables us to serve more destinations with the same premium experience our guests expect across all cabins, perfectly embodying our commitment to delivering luxury at every altitude,” said Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways.

The aircraft features three cabin classes: First, Business, and Economy. Business Class includes a 1-1 herringbone layout with direct aisle access, 17.3-inch 4K screens, Bluetooth pairing, and wireless charging. Economy Class offers 144 seats with 13.3-inch displays, USB ports, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Additional features include expanded overhead bins and high-speed Wi-Fi via Viasat, with speeds reaching hundreds of Mbps. The service will be progressively introduced on Asian routes starting in September 2025.

The A321LR will enter commercial service on August 1, starting with the Abu Dhabi–Phuket route, and later flying to destinations such as Paris, Milan, Bangkok, Zurich, and Copenhagen. Nine more units will be delivered throughout 2025.

The aircraft supports Etihad’s “Journey 2030” plan, which aims to carry 38 million passengers annually by the end of the decade and solidify Abu Dhabi’s role as a global aviation hub.
