In yet another announcement set to be made during US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East, Etihad Airways has ordered 28 787 and 777X aircraft from Boeing.

All of the widebodies will be powered by GE Aerospace engines and deliveries will begin from 2028.

“Since 2023, the airline has steadily grown its fleet as part of a long-term strategy to double in size by 2030,” Etihad said.

Details of the individual aircraft numbers had not been released by the two carriers at the time of publication.

The deal is estimated to be worth $14.5 billion, far more modest than the massive order from Etihad’s rival Qatar Airways.

The Doha-based carrier has ordered 130 787 Dreamliners and 30 777-9s, and has secured 50 more options for the aircraft.

Etihad Airways, which operates out of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, has said it plans to add 170 aircraft to its fleet by 2030.

The carrier recently rolled out its first A321LR, a narrow-body aircraft that will be used on medium-haul routes.

In recent years, Etihad has ordered 75 787s of the 787-9 and 787-10 variants, in addition to 25 777Xs in 2013, 17 of which were 777-9s and eight of which were 777-8s.
