Air TransportEVA Air has approved the purchase of four Boeing 787-9 aircraft, with a total value of up to $1.94 billion, in a decision disclosed to the Taiwan Stock Exchange on December 26 in Taipei.
The carrier stated that the order is intended to address operational requirements for medium and long-haul services.
EVA Air will also renew lease agreements for four Boeing 777-300ERs and carry out cabin upgrades on six of these aircraft, with combined costs reaching $152 million.
EVA Air already operates both Boeing 787-9 and 787-10 variants in its long-haul fleet, supporting its network across Asia, North America, and Europe. The airline has not disclosed the delivery timeline for the newly ordered 787-9s.
In a brief statement, EVA Air noted, “The purchase is to meet operational needs for medium and long-haul routes.”
The 787-9 has become a core element for many Asia-Pacific carriers seeking fuel efficiency and range flexibility.
Industry data shows that EVA Air’s previous widebody acquisitions have focused on balancing capacity growth with operational economics.
