Eve Air Mobility conducted the first flight of its full-scale unmanned ‘flying car’ prototype at Embraer’s testing unit in Brazil, the company stated on Friday.

The inaugural flight marks the beginning of flight testing and validates the integration of the aircraft’s main systems. According to Eve, hundreds of additional flights are planned to progressively expand the operational envelope, including the transition to winged sustained flights by 2026.

The company is collaborating with the Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) to advance the regulatory and certification process.

Eve will build six certifiable prototypes that will be used in the flight test campaign focused on certification. The expectation is to obtain type certification, carry out the first deliveries, and start commercial operations in 2027.

“Today, Eve flew. This is a historic milestone for our employees, customers, investors, and the entire Urban Air Mobility ecosystem,” said Johann Bordais, CEO of Eve.

“We tested our control laws, verified the integration of the eight lifting rotors, and evaluated energy management, the dynamic response of the aircraft, and external noise,” highlighted Luiz Valentini, Chief Technology Officer of Eve.

“This flight gives a green light for us to advance in what really matters for operators: reliability, efficiency, and simplicity,” said Jorge Bittercourt, Chief Product Officer of Eve.

Eve’s eVTOL program is part of an industry movement to develop electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft aimed at urban mobility. Several global manufacturers are conducting similar campaigns, with service entry deadlines between 2026 and 2028.

According to industry data, Eve has accumulated orders and purchase intentions for more than 2,800 units, leading the new segment.
