FedEx and ATR have signed a new contract for the supply of 10 ATR 72-600Fs.
The new freighter aircraft will be delivered between 2027 and 2029 and will join a previous order for 30 turboprops, the manufacturer said.
The 10 aircraft were already in ATR’s backlog in 2024, but the customer was not disclosed.
The US freight and parcel carrier currently has 57 ATR turboprops in service, of which 15 are the ATR 42 and 42 versions of the ATR 72.
The more modern ATR 72-600F variant began deliveries in 2020 and currently comprises 23 aircraft, including turboprops registered in the US and Ireland.

“FedEx’s decision to order additional ATR 72-600F underscores their confidence in our aircraft’s performance and versatility. Our freighter variant is an essential component of the ATR family, offering significant advantages over traditional passenger-to-freighter conversions, including enhanced reliability and availability, and longer-term planning,” said Alexis Vidal, Senior Vice-President Commercial of ATR.
The ATR 72-600F can carry up to 9.2 tons of paid cargo in its 75 m³ of cargo hold.
According to ATR, the aircraft can receive Unit Load Devices (ULDs) thanks to the large side door and thus operate in conjunction with larger cargo jets.
