Air TransportFinnair is preparing for a major fleet renewal and may order up to 30 new Airbus narrowbody aircraft, CEO Turkka Kuusisto said on September 3.
“One could argue that we would need 15, but of course we need to also do a wider or extrapolated analysis that should it be 25 or 30, but that is still on the drawing table,” Kuusisto told reporters.
The Finnish carrier currently operates 80 aircraft, but about 15 older narrowbodies are approaching retirement. “That’s the most urgent need,” the executive added.
Kuusisto emphasized that no aircraft type has been selected yet, and a final decision is expected toward the end of the year.
With a network that connects Europe and Asia through its Helsinki hub, Finnair relies heavily on narrowbody aircraft for regional and intra-European routes.
A new order would modernize its short-haul fleet, reduce emissions, and lower operating costs.
